Fun Water Recipe #2

Processed with VSCOcam with a5 preset

I have a confession to make. A few weeks ago I posted about how I am trying to make healthier choices, working out, drinking more water…. etc. Well, two days after I started my new workout plan, I got a large tattoo on my leg, and it hurt. So long story short I postponed my working out // and everything that went along with it apparently // and waited for my tattoo to heal.

That being said, I started over and this week, I am going to try my very best to stay on track. I created a new Fun Water Recipe for this week and I hope that you enjoy it.

Outdoor Picnic with TeepeeTot + Coupon Code

Tee pee Tot Picnic with Coral and Cloud and Fancy Frogz

When I browse online for decorative inspiration, I notice I am attracted to a common theme within children’s spaces. In this space there is usually an area of shelter or personal space that the child can call their own. Unfortunately, these spaces are often not practical or affordable to do in my own home. When I came across TeepeeTot I knew that Jiao’s creations would be a perfect fit for any area in our home and something my children would enjoy. Continue reading

My Travel Must Haves

My husband and I recently won a trip to Vegas, B I G thanks to Lanka Jewels (where he bought my engagement ring). While on the trip I realized quickly that each day I used the same six items. I wanted to share these items with you as some of them are from my favourite local shops, and the others are products that I have purchased and are frequently used everyday items.

Creative Photo Shoot with Quantum Images Inc.

It was raining, it was pouring, and it was so much fun! It is not every day that the model (myself) and the photographer want to venture into the pouring rain to see what we can create. Due to our busy schedules and both of us eager to create something unique we went for it, finger crossed, to see what we could capture.

We Love Handmade! Small Business Photoshoot Collaboration

I feel like I start every blog post with I am so excited, but honestly… I am so excited to share these with you. I have been working with some pretty awesome ladies/mommas recently for the opportunity to share some of their amazing products with you. I got to get together with my sister, plan a little picnic photoshoot with our kids and then photograph the results.

We set up the Teepee Tot tee pee for the first time and introduced them to some new hand crocheted teddies, by Softly Made, and it was so great to see them interact. Sophie has always been a wild one, exploring, yelling and flailing where Milo is a little more reserved, cautious yet curious. Their personalities seemed to evident within the photographs to me. They are also wearing some favourite clothing articles from Modern Moses Clothing and Little & Lively.

DIY: Easter Egg decorating with Metallic Tattoos by Boho Marks

My son saw some of my metallic tattoos around the house the other day and was asking to use them. This morning I had an idea to use the tattoos while decorating our Easter eggs. When I brought this idea to him, he was beyond excited. He even proclaimed, “Daddy will be so impressed with us when he sees that we tattooed our eggs!”

I think I was just as excited as he was. We cleaned the table off, got a cloth, scissors, Boho Marks {metallic tattoos}, and of course the hard boiled eggs. This was such a great craft for him as he got to carefully cut around the tattoos he wanted to place, focused on being gentle with the eggs, and he loved seeing how they turned out. This craft was great for me as the mess was minimal and we were both having a great time together.

Twine Abode makes the loveliest all natural products for your home as well as cleansing products for yourself and your kids. I own the Shampoo & Body Wash from the ‘twine for kids’ line and have absolutely adored using it on my kids. Every night when I tuck my daughter in goodnight and have snuggles on her rocking chair I can’t resist nuzzling my head into her hair and breathing in the smell of sweet orange. Continue reading

Shop Spotlight: Twine Abode

Time and time again I am so surprised with how small the world is. I was introduced to Twine Abode through a post on Instagram and fell in love with their style and products. It was after a few emails back and forth that I realized that these lovely ladies, actually lived in the same town as me. I love when that happens! So not only are these products all natural they are local too. Win Win!

I got a sweet package last month and have been using their kid’s bath time products ever since. The smell is amazing! When I tuck my daughter in before bed we always spend a few minutes snuggling and rocking her the chair, I love nuzzling my head in her hair and smelling the natural and fresh sweet orange smell of their kid’s hair and body wash. Pure delight.

My husband and I have been talking about different ways to change up our bedroom.  We want to create a unique space in the home that is just for us.  We are in the process of creating an accent wall for behind our bed, which got me thinking.  Once that is complete what small simple touches do I want to add/keep to create a super cozy feel. Shop Feature: MimiTENS

It’s that time of year again where the baggy sweaters, thick socks and warm mittens make their appearances.  Getting myself dressed is enjoyable as I love bundling up in layers.  Getting my kids geared up and ready to go is much harder.  Over the past month I have been testing out and dressing my daughter up in mimiTENS mittens and it has made the job so much more enjoyable.  mimiTENS are handmade with nylon, thinsulate and bamboo/organic cotton to keep your child’s hands ‘oh so cozy’.  I have discovered that my mimiTENS mittens stay on my daughter’s hands way better than any other mittens that she owns.   She doesn’t make a fuss when they are on either! Small Business: Harlow Skin Co.

I was mailed products by Harlow Skin Co. a few weeks back, to use and enjoy, and I am more than loving these products.  I chose the ‘Fresh Morning’ scented candle as well as the ‘Spa Day’ Body Whip.  Both products, though very different, have similar qualities that I quite enjoy.  Their smells are very attractive and pleasant, not over powering, also so calming and relaxing.  I am also blown away by their quality, both products have been used a number of times and their quantity has barely diminished, you only need to use a small amount of body whip to cover a large area of skin.  It is quite neat to see how these products have emerged into my home, when I first got them in the mail my son was all about how great they smelt, he had a bath and asked me if I could put some of that really good smelling stuff on him once he was all clean.  Today even, I lit the ‘Fresh Morning‘ candle by Harlow Skin Co. and my son also commented that it was his favourite candle in our house.  I would say that he has some pretty good taste!

Small Business: Simply Mel and Co.

I am constantly reminded about what a small world it is every time I make a new connection with someone and I realize that our paths had previously passed without even realizing it.  Melissa, from Simply Mel and Co., and I used to work across the street from each other, both working at different businesses owned by our mothers.  It wasn’t until recently, when Melissa contacted me through my blog that we realized we recognized each other.  I am so thrilled to have the pleasure to make this connection with Melissa and have the opportunity to learn more and share all about Melissa and Simply Mel and Co. with you.

The Gift of Giving with Operation Christmas Child

Thinking back at my childhood and remembering the traditions within my family over the Christmas holidays is always a joy of mine.  This year I was reminded of the yearly message that my parents encouraged my sisters and I about, the gift of giving.  We were taught that there is so much value in giving to someone else, especially to those that were not as fortunate to enjoy the holidays the same way we do.  Buying items to fill our boxes with and then packing them all up in our Operation Christmas Child boxes is a very vivid and enjoyable memory that I have as a child, and one that I would like to pass along to my children.  I want to teach my children that as fun as it is to receive over the holidays, it is just as fun and important to give.

When I brought the boxes home yesterday, avaliable to you at your local Collection Center, my son (5) was so intrigued to find out what they were for.  When I explained to him that I thought it would be a fun activity for him to go shopping and fill the box with gifts for a boy his age, that may not be getting any gifts this Christmas, he was so excited.  We took time out of our afternoon and went out to look for school supplies, hygiene items and toys to fill up our box.  After we felt we had enough to fill up his box, we headed home and were ready to pack his shoe box.

We had so much fun chatting about the boy that might receive his box and some ways that he may use his new items.  It was fun teaching my son about different people across the globe and how not every family is the same as ours.  The last step was to say a little prayer over our box, blessing the boy that receives it, praying that he feels special and loved by those around him.

There is still time for you to fill a box if you are feeling inspired and wanting to join and supporting the cause.  If you don’t feel you have time to fill a box there is also the option to support Operation Christmas Child by donating online.

Photo Shoot: Kid + Kind & MiniEm

We absolutely love playing outside, though the weather has been awfully rainy lately, it hasn’t happened as often as we would like.  This weekend we took advantage of the sun and got to bundle up and have some fun in the crisp cool air outside.  Sophie is wearing two brands that I am very passionate about.  Kid + Kind and MiniEm are both small home based brands ran by incredibly talented mommas.
Mini Tree-6

Kid + Kind:Launched June 2014, though the inspiration behind it came long before that. Having worked in the fashion industry for nearly 12 years, the thought of ‘going it alone’ has always been in the back of my mind. I have worked for some of the globe’s largest, most recognized brands; and while it has given me a wealth of knowledge of our mass markets, I still believe in creating something unique and special–something that alters the way we perceive ourselves and our possibilities, and even our own world. It was the birth of my daughter that sparked my inherent need to make her world as fun, beautiful, and as inspiring as possible. And it was the sense that I might not be alone in wanting this, that drove me to create Kid + Kind. I believe that there are others out there like me–of my ‘kind’ so-to-speak. And that bringing beauty, of all forms, to the lives of our children is a deeply-seated interest we all share.” – Jacquelyn Sage

When I first came across Kid + Kind they were just starting out, they had very unique and fun designs to choose from. It hasn’t taken them long to flourish and expand their line with incredibly cute new designs in their Fall & Winer Collection.  This ‘Seal Pup’ raglan is one of the cuteset shirts my little girl owns, also one of the top complimented articles as well.  It doesn’t matter where we go, someone compliments us on the shirt and how they love the look.  I am so happy to share about Kid + Kind and show off their brand as this momma is super encouraging and talented.  Jackie creates from her soul and produces one of a kind items that are perfect for both genders to style impeccably.

Mini Tree-4

MiniEm: This momma started her handmade brand when she was searching for a slouchy beanie for her daughter, she wanted something neutral, cool and affordable.  After a failed search, Chantelle decided to dig out her serger, that hadn’t been out since attending fashion school, and she began to make prototypes.  Chantelle quickly began to realize that creating and producing was a very rewarding way to spend her down time, while her daughter was napping.  “The entrepreneur side in me had my etsy shop open within a week,” said Chantelle.

Chantelle and Emerson have so much fun filling their days with fabric store trips, photo shoots in the park, and post-office walks.  Having a destination on their walks, like to the post-office, has made their trips and adventures all the more rewarding and fulfilling.   Even though Chantelle is back to work as a Fashion Buyer for a Canadian retailer, she has continued to pursue MiniEm, it was something she couldn’t just put aside.  Chantelle explained, “I love creating so much!  Business is growing and fabric sources are getting better and better.  My amazing customers are so supportive and have the cutest littles, seeing their photos makes me become all the more addicted.”  The amazing community of like minded shops is something that Chantelle is very greatful for and happy to be a part of.

MiniEm’s stylish gender neutral clothing grow with the little ones in your life.  The pants styled in this photo shoot have a waist band that is folded down, however as my little lady grows the pants can be lengthened by turning the fold up and adding an extra inch or two.  I was also extremely impressed by how soft and comfortable the fabric is, my girl was not bothered at all by the slouchy beanie, infinity scarf or the pants.  She was happy to be bundled up on this colder day in her MiniEm wear.

Small Business: Coral + Cloud

Geometric shapes, vibrant colours, beautifully handmade, and oh so unique; are all ways that would perfectly describe Coral + Cloud’s original necklace and mobile line.  Each wooden bead is hand-painted with high quality eco friendly paint to provide you with exceptional products.  When I first received my necklace in the mail I put it on right away, I loved how the wooden geometric shaped beads, coloured in peach, pink and gold, looked displayed around my neck.  My new statement piece necklace by Coral + Cloud had definitely taken the lead in favourite necklace.  The very next day I wore my necklace to work and I received a large number of compliments from customers, I was so thrilled to share with them about this small business I had recently come to know.  I was just as excited then as I now, being able to share with you all about Coral + Cloud and the remarkable woman behind the business is such a pleasure.

DIY: Simple Fall Decor

Fall is one of my favorite times of year, I love watching as the leaves on the trees change color, begin to fall and color the streets.  As the weather changes, our personal style and home decor changes with it.  Today I am sharing a quick and easy DIY Fall Craft that will add a little sparkle of fall into your home. Follow these simple steps and create your own Leaf Mobile.

The Materials I Used:

One small branch or twig (you choose the size you want)
Three or more dried leaves
Gold (or any color) Spray paint
Sewing thread
Scissors

Tips & Tricks

My son and I went out on a hunt for the perfect fall leaves, we picked them off trees as we wanted them to be fully intact and perfectly shaped.  We came home and placed the leaves on separate pages in a thick book for a week to dry them out.  Once the leaves were dried, I spray painted both sides and let dry. We found a small twig to hang them on while out on our walk as well.  Use the twig and tie a knot around the base and stem of your leaves at the appropriate length. Cut of the excess thread and ta da! Done.

DIY: First Birthday Greek Yogurt Painting

Sophie Paint1A few weeks ago I came across a beautiful painting that Numpfer created with her daughter.  She created a post about how they created their picture and the simple steps to do it on your own [see her post here].  I absolutely adored this idea, and what a great keepsake the painting would be for my daughter as her first piece of art, for her first birthday.  We also got to use the painting as part of her birthday party decor, it added the perfect touch. For my first mini style shoot, I am featuring WEWEST‘s Black Floral Kimono.  WEWEST is an online boutique launched in 2014. They offer a style that is both chic and exclusive by keeping up to date with the latest fashion trends. Born in Toronto, with west coast influences, you can always count on them to make a statement.  Their goal is to seek out on trend fashion items for affordable prices.  I am absolutely in love with this Kimono that they sent my way.  With the kimono being so light weight and breathable it has been my cardigan of choice for the warm fall weather we have been experiencing.

Photography: Taste Testing from the Apple Tree

It is such a joy to our family, especially our children, that we have an Apple Tree on our property.  This tree is at the back of our property, it’s a dwarf tree, but produces more than enough apples to make a few delicious recipes.  For the past week our kids have wanted to go out and taste test to see if the apples are ready.  Today my son decided they need a few more days to grow a bit bigger.  We are looking for an awesome recipe, any suggestions?  Please comment below of an idea or with a recipe would be even better. Enjoy these few pictures from our taste test.

Small Business: Numpfer

These organic multi-use bibs by Numpfer make me wish I had a newborn again, they are exactly what they say they are, a ‘Must-Have.’  Their super soft and absorbant terry cloth fabric is perfect for the delicate skin of your newborn baby.  Numpfer also makes loveable blankets out of an organic bamboo-cotton blend jersey fabric, similar to their bibs.  Their all white fabric is designed with a hint of your favorite color around the edge making their pieces so modern and timeless.

A few months back, I came across Numpfer on Instagram, it didn’t take much browsing to fall in love with this local brand.  I very much enjoy following Sarah’s feed and discovering more about the Momma behind the business, as well as, the darling girl who inspired it all.  Sarah’s feed is filled with beautifully photographed shots of her products, her gorgeous daughter, and little bits of her everyday life.  Recently, I got in contact with Sarah and got to learn more about who she is and her motivation behind Numpfer.
Picture 72
When I asked Sarah to tell me a little bit about herself, her response put a huge grin on my face.  I loved how much I felt like I could relate to Sarah, her honesty and openness is admired.  Sarah likes to be busy, she is constantly multi-tasking and can’t stay still for too long.  Though after a busy week Sarah looks forward to the weekend, the time that her little family gets to spend all together.  Sarah described a favorite past-time, she said, “I love going on very long walks around the city with a coffee in my stroller cup holder, that spills unless the cup is half full, and a croissant in my hand, that I usually share with my daughter.”  With Sarah’s busy body personality, love for the outdoors, and desire for simple, classic, and linear design she created a brand that truly represents who she is.
 Numpfer - tie bib
The birth of Sarah’s daughter gave her motivation to start her unknown dream job.  Sarah said, “When my daughter was born, she was in the nursery for her first few days of life where she started feeding on a bottle and preferred the bottle. The hospital nurses always used washcloths as bibs, though very absorbent they didn’t reach all the way around her neck, resulting in a very wet outfit.”  After getting home from the hospital, Sarah looked around for a bib appropriate for bottle fed newborns, she found the market lacking.  Sarah decided if she was in need of this, than other parents probably needed it too.  It didn’t take her long to purchase some organic bamboo terry cloth from a local supplier and design a pattern that would tie around the side, while bunching around the chin for extra absorbency.  With this, Numpfer was born.  The Multi-Use Bibs were first, and the next logical step was blankets.
_
Sarah opened her online shop in February 2014 and has also placed her product in a number of shops and boutiques.  It was a combination of stores seeking out Numpfer and Sarah seeking out stores that allowed Numpfer the store presence that it has today.  It’s true to say that introducing your product to a new business can be intimidating, but it is important to not be discouraged by a no or no reply.  “I look at it like photography,” said Sarah, “every photo you take is not going to result in the perfect shot, you have to take many to get one great one.”
numpfer
Sarah is very proud of each store that her products are placed in, and would love to continue to grow her brand through wholesale.  Sarah is currently promoting her brand by using Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest.  Sarah said that she finds Instagram to be the most effective as the community is incredible, she has met so many amazing and inspiring people through this forum.  I am encouraged by these words from Sarah, “I know that you need to love and believe in what you do and keep going regardless of the road blocks you may encounter.”

Strawberry Picking at Maan Farms

Strawberry picking at Abbotsford Maan Farms

The other day my sister, myself and our babes got together and decided to go strawberry picking for the first time. I have seen a lot of posts and many very delicious looking photos of friends going out to their local berry farms, I wanted to go try it out for myself. As a kid my mom would take me and my sisters berry picking all the time, but it was usually raspberries and blueberries that we picked. I was excited to try out strawberry picking for the first time, and I have some tips for any of you other first timers out there to ensure you have the best experience. Continue reading
